About "Literally Yours" :
I dont know an author who doesnt have a beautiful wife.
Lekh is perennially stuck with this first sentence of his new novel...a severe case of Writers Block. So when he arrives at the Jaipur Literature Festival, romance is the last thing on his mind and the first thing in his destiny.
Lipi is searching for a happily ever after which could either be romance about to happen or a story waiting to be written... and a garbled, jealous writer like Lekh is not at all her idea of a soulmate.
The Festival turns out to be a perfect milieu where serendipity serves them a heady cocktail of love, literature and realisation that between the lands of fact and fiction there is no such thing as a Line of Control. One can always merge into the other to create a charming love story.
One sight of Lipi and Lekh turns into a helpless lover boy faltering, stuttering and struggling to find his opening killer line to impress this woman of his dreams. In the five days of festivity, Lekh woos, serenades and seeks her approval. As their relation moves from light flirting to intense confessions, Lekh and Lipi sense a magical bond that solidifies with every interactionYet they encounter a scary question Are their feelings real, or are they the effect of this enchanting ambience?
Literally Yours is a romance that shapes up amidst a dazzling literary star cast including Shobha D, Chetan Bhagat, Shashi Tharoor, Javed Akhtar, Simon Montefiore, James Waller, Shashi Deshpande,Vikram Chandra, Sir Mark Tully, Girish Karnad, Amitav Ghosh...and Salman Rushdie the only one who made a larger impact by his absence.
And then there is the usual gang of mindsores - the pretentious Ramona Bisht, the over-hyped Manhar Gulati, the crafty superauthor Tarun Kumar, Ranbeer Kaul who thinks that syllable and syllabus are synonyms.
Set against the backdrop of the Jaipur Literary Festival, the book is a recommended read for two kinds of people those who have been to the Jaipur Literature Festival and those who havent.
Literally Yours offers you light hearted banter along with serious exchange of literary perspectives on the contemporary scene of Indian writing in English; there is harmless leg-pulling along with intense conversations between Lekh and Lipi , all of which gives the reader his share of literary meat and intelligent humour wrapped in a beautiful love story.
The characters are identifiable with those who you would meet at a literary festival. Lipi and Lekh represent the writer and the quintessential script in every one of us; the writer who searches and develops his script to write the story that sets him free.
We leave you, however, with this closing remark: If you are interested in love or literature, this book is Literally Yours.
